Step 4: Start Listening to Your Body
- Melissa Wolney
After getting organized, protecting your energy, and reaching for support, the next step is learning how to reconnect with your body instead of fighting against it.
Many people with autoimmune conditions spend years ignoring symptoms, pushing through exhaustion, or second-guessing what their body is trying to communicate. Over time, this can create a disconnect between what your body needs and how you respond.
This week is about slowing down enough to notice patterns without judgment.
Your Body Is Giving You Information
Symptoms are frustrating, but they’re also information.
Instead of labeling symptoms as “good” or “bad,” begin asking:
What seems to make me feel worse?
What helps me feel more calm or supported?
How do sleep, stress, food, movement, or overstimulation affect me?
When do I feel most exhausted?
When do I feel most regulated?
You are not trying to “fix” every symptom this week.
You are learning awareness.
What This Looks Like (This Week)
Keep this simple.
Choose one thing to pay attention to each day:
Your energy after meals
Your sleep quality
Your stress levels
Your digestion
Your mood
Your tension levels
Your breathing patterns
Your focus or brain fog
The goal is just to notice.
Stop Fighting Your Body
A lot of people begin to view their body as the enemy after a diagnosis.
But your body is not working against you.
It’s trying to communicate that something needs support.
That mindset shift matters.
This Week’s Focus
Instead of asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”
Try asking:
“What is my body trying to tell me?”
You don’t need all the answers right now.
You’re learning your patterns one step at a time.
